Number of data centers worldwide (as of 2025-03)

The United States has by far the most at 5,426, more than the combined total of the next 15 countries (3,975). Japan has 222, about 4% of the US figure.

Note: that source is the Cloudscene database, which aggregates commercial colocation providers across the board. Its scope differs from this site's tally of 65 facilities above, which is limited to AI and hyperscale facilities tracked with cited sources. The two counts are not directly comparable.

Data center market size worldwide (revenue)

Estimated at USD 416.1 billion in 2024 (source figure: 4,161 億ドル), forecast to grow to USD 624.1 billion by 2029 (6,241 億ドル). About half of that is network infrastructure equipment and services.

Data center services market size in Japan (revenue)

JPY 2.7361 trillion in 2023 (source figure: 27,361 億円), expected to reach JPY 5.0812 trillion by 2028 (50,812 億円).
